Vegetable Guar Gum
Name: Cyamopsis tetragonoloba
Extraction: The seeds are dehusked, crushed, screened and dried out yielding the powdered guar gum - also called gellan gum
What is guar gum?
Guar gum is a natural extract from the seeds of the guar or cluster bean. They are a readily renewable resource!
Guar Gum Benefits
Guar gum is one of the few natural plant based conditioning agents that are allowed to be used on UDSA Certified Organic products.
How does Guar Gum Work?
Guar gum is a natural humectant - meaning it has moisture and it likes to hold on to moisture. It is said to have more than 5x the thickening power of corn starch! If you've ever added guar gum to a solution you'll notice that you only need a small amount!
How do we use it?
Guar gum has a number of properties when used in our Cedar, Peppermint, and Eucalyptus Organic Dog Shampoo formulation:
- Serves as a natural conditioner and detangler
- Feels like silk!
- Helps against static electricity
- Reduces friction in your dog's coat making it easier to comb
- Makes the hair feel soft and smooth
- Conditions without any buildup
While guar gum is one of the few thickening agents that you can use in certified organic formulations it does lower the natural lather of the overall formulation; but, like we say if you want more lather - add more water!
Is Guar Gum safe?
Guar gum is 100% safe and non-toxic. It is also 100% biodegradable!
