How Do You Select The Best Dog Shampoo? Pro Tips!

August 03, 2019 2 min read

which organic dog shampoo is the best for my dog?

We get it.

You want the best all natural and organic dog shampoo for you dog.

You have a list of ingredients you do not want to see on the label. It might look something like this:

  • No artificial fragrances or colors
  • No phenoxyethanol
  • No harsh preservatives
  • No sulfates
  • Nothing artificial or synthetic

Bottom line? You want a true all natural organic dog shampoo from a company who cares about ingredients as much as you do.

So did we! We couldn't find a brand we loved so we dedicated our lives to creating one so we could give every dog a healthy bath!

The Highest Standard of Safety: USDA Certified Organic

All of 4-Legger's organic dog shampoos are truly all natural and USDA Certified Organic.

We have two formulations:

  • USDA Organic to Human Grade / Food Standards
  • USDA Organic to the Full Seal Standard

There are two main differences between the formulations: the bases and essential oils, base oils, or herbal extracts added.

Differences in the Shampoo Base Formulations

Here is a comparison of the shampoo bases:

USDA Organic Dog Shampoo to Human Grade Food Standards

USDA Organic to Human Grade Food Standards

Saponified organic oils of coconut, olive, and jojoba, organic aloe vera, and rosemary extract

USDA Organic Dog Shampoo

USDA Organic to the Full Seal Standard

Organic Aloe Juice, Organic Saponified Oils (Coconut, Shea Butter, Olive, Sunflower, and Jojoba), Organic Vegetable Glycerin, Organic Rosemary Extract

Both are excellent choices.

Differences in the Essential Oils, Oils, or Herbal Extracts

The USDA Organic to Human Food Standards shampoos usually have 1-2 essential oils added while the UDSA to the full standard shampoos have a bit extra added.

Comparing our lemongrass shampoos:
Lemongrass and Aloe Lemongrass with Aloe and Hemp Oil
  • Rosemary essential oil
  • Lemongrass essential oil
  • Organic aloe vera
  • Organic Lemongrass Essential Oil
  • Organic Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Organic Hemp Oil
Both are excellent shampoos with great lather (always use lots of water), are safe and non-toxic and trusted by both traditional and holistic veterinarians!

Last year we talked to a holistic veterinarian who said she doesn't recommend any shampoo because there aren't any that she likes. Guess what? She is now a 4-Legger customer and sells it in her practice!
Here are our best recommendations based on conditions.
